Camper Second Mile Service

Share the Light of Christ
At the heart of everything we do is the love of Jesus. We aim to reflect His light through our actions, words, and attitudes, creating a space filled with joy, service, and grace.

Show Love in Our Actions
The Second Mile Initiative is about doing more than what’s expected. It’s about seeing needs and meeting them, noticing others, and showing love through everyday moments of service and care.

Provide a Clean, Safe Space
We believe that every camper deserves a welcoming and secure environment. From clean cabins and cared-for facilities to a focus on health and safety, we strive to create a space where everyone can rest, grow, and have fun.

Give Opportunities to Develop Healthy Habits and Behavioral Growth
We empower every individual to learn and practice personal health and hygiene habits. By providing guidance and supplies, we equip our campers to understand self care. During their time at camp our campers are coached in behavioral growth. Whether it’s learning teamwork on the field, practicing patience during activities, or choosing kindness in daily interactions, we help campers grow into strong, healthy individuals inside and out.

Give Camp to All Through Financial Support
Through the generosity of donors, we’re able to make camp possible for every child, regardless of financial situation. This support ensures that every camper can experience the community of Three Trails Camp.

Meet Needs Through the Second Mile Closet
The Second Mile Closet helps meet practical needs for campers and staff by providing clothing, hygiene items, and essentials.

Share and Support Habits of Emotional Well-Being
Camp is a place where hearts and minds grow. Through caring staff, quiet moments, and supportive community, we encourage campers to express themselves, build confidence, and support good mental health.

Our Commitment to Going the Second Mile

Every part of camp life is touched by this initiative. It’s more than a program,  it’s a mindset that challenges us to:

  • Serve with heart by meeting needs before they’re asked.
  • See the individual by celebrating every camper’s unique story and abilities.
  • Shine the light of Christ through kindness, patience, and joy.
  • Show love through action in the way we care for people, places, and even our animals.

How We Go the Second Mile

Our Second Mile Scholarships
Thanks to the generous support of donors the true cost of camp, around $475 per camper per week, has been significantly subsidized. As a result, families are only asked to pay a reduced rate of $50 to $75 for each camp. In addition to this reduced fee, The Salvation Army Three Trails Camp offers a limited number of need-based scholarships on a tiered scale. Send a kid to camp with your monetary donation.

Our Second Mile Closet
A place where needs are met quietly and respectfully. Our Second Mile Closet provides campers and staff with access to clothing, hygiene items, and supplies ensuring everyone feels confident and cared for, no matter their circumstances. Donations from our community keep these shelves stocked. Download our flyer for more information.

Our Second Mile Critters
Our animal friends help teach empathy, patience, and responsibility. Campers and staff are invited to interact with our Second Mile Critters who are gentle animals that create moments of calm and connection. Caring for God’s creatures reminds us of the importance of stewardship and compassion in every form. Monetary donations allow us to provide critters, supplies and habitats. Donate today to support this program.

Our Second Mile Crew
We believe that everyone has something to give and something to gain. Our Second Mile Crew provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to be a part of our daily camp life by serving on our staff. Crew members are assisted by a life coach with a one to three ratio who will mentor them in job responsibilities and help them shine in their unique gifts and skill sets. Contact our partner Diana Eakright at Community Services League for more information on this program.

Our Second Mile Awards
We celebrate staff members who go above and beyond. Each week, team members who exemplify the spirit of service, kindness, and leadership can receive a Second Mile Award. It’s our way of recognizing those who make camp a better place through selfless acts.

Why It Matters

The Second Mile Initiative reminds us that true service is not about obligation, it’s about transformation. When we go the second mile, we reflect Christ’s love and create an environment where everyone feels cared for.
